Stringfellow Hawke, a test pilot for the advanced helicopter “Airwolf”, is tasked with recovering the craft from its creator who stole it from “the Firm”, a division of the CIA. Once it’s recovered, he refuses to return it to the Firm unless they find his brother who went MIA in Vietnam. Archangel, head of the Firm, makes a deal with Hawke. He’ll protect him from other government agencies trying to recover the helicopter if he’ll fly missions for the government with it.

A German company purchased the helicopter after the show ended and used it as an air ambulance. On June 9, 1992, it crashed in a thunderstorm, killing all 3 crew members aboard.
