  2. A few years ago, a statue of Lucille Ball was dedicated in her hometown of Celoron, New York. The statue by sculptor Dave Poulin was quickly dubbed "Scary Lucy" because it bore little resemblance to the actress and, well, it was scary looking. On what would have been Lucille Ball's 105th birthday, a new bronze statue by sculptor Carolyn Palmer was dedicated. Unlike the previous statue, this Lucy statue is gorgeous and looks just like her!
  3. MeTV has broken up its Sci-Fi Saturday Night lineup. Starting 9/10/16, there will be a new block called Red Eye Sci-Fi. The Time Tunnel will run at 1AM, Land of the Giants at 2AM, Lost In Space is moving to 3AM and Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea to 4AM. Rounding out the lineup is Planet of the Apes at 5AM. Fans have been extremely upset about the changes, especially those who livetweet the shows on Twitter and have even started a hashtag, #ProtestTooLateSciFi, in protest.
  4. Sad news to report, Jerry Doyle was found unresponsive in his Las Vegas home yesterday. His family announced today that he has passed away at the age of 60. The cause is unknown at this time. More details here: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...bylon-5-915468
  5. I liked Sliders, but I don't see how it ranks in the top 20. Quantum Leap should rank higher than Sliders. Also, I'd rank Star Trek: The Original Series higher than Next Generation. I'm glad to see Lost In Space on the list and personally, I'd rank it higher, but that's personal bias talking. I'd have liked to see Voyage To The Bottom of the Sea on the list too. I'm a sucker for Irwin Allen shows, if you hadn't noticed. I'm sure I'll give this more thought and post again.
  6. The Lost In Space Blu-ray will be available on the 50th anniversary of the show's premiere, September 15th, 2015. It has tons of extras, interviews with the cast, two documentaries about the show, commentary on select episodes, a table reading of Bill Mumy's un-filmed script that was meant to give the show closure, and best of all, completely remastered footage! Here is a sample of the remastered series: Pre-order the Lost In Space 50th Anniversary Blu-ray.
  7. I ran across an article today, Popular Mechanics' Top 50 Sci-Fi shows of all time. It's an interesting list, which I have some disagreement with, which I will talk about in a subsequent post. The article is here: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cult...i-fi-tv-shows/ but I'll post the list here for quick reference. What do you think of this list? 8. Looks like the final will be the same as last year, Star Trek vs. MASH. I hope Star Trek wins again!
  9. Register for the 2015 MeTV Madness tournament and help pick the #1 classic tv program. I participated in this last year and it was a lot of fun. You can register here via email, Twitter, or Facebook. http://metvnetwork.com/me_madness
  10. I just discovered TJ Hooker available for streaming on Crackle this weekend. It's available until April 15, 2015. I used to watch this all the time during the original run. I'm having a marathon this weekend and I'm loving it. It was a fantastic vehicle for William Shatner, so full of melodramatic ham. I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to be laughing at it so much, but it's so incredibly entertaining.
  11. We upgraded the forum software and we have a new look again! If you encounter any bugs, please contact me.

  23. This past weekend marked the one year anniversary of Peter Falk's death. Columbo fans on Twitter marked the occasion with an online tribute "Remembering Peter Falk" where they tweeted about their favorite Falk moments in film and tv as well tweeting photos and videos. You can view it all at hashtag #RememberingPeterFalk I grew up watching Peter Falk and he was one of the few actors that influenced my early life. His role as Columbo had the greatest impact on me. Columbo was smart, polite, though stern when he needed to be, understanding, hard working, and dedicated. In short, he was the best role model a young person could have. And I loved the fact that he was rumpled and a tad disorganized at times, because truthfully, so was I. Despite my young age, I could identify with him in a lot of ways. It wasn't just Columbo that I remember Falk for. There were a slew of movies and tv shows I saw him in over the years that I loved. Murder By Death, my all time favorite movie, was one. The In-Laws, The Great Race, The Brinks Job, the Twilight Zone episode The Mirror, The Cheap Detective, The Princess Bride, and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World were just a few of the others. Peter Falk may have left this world, but he left it, and me, with many wonderful, happy memories that I'll cherish forever.
  24. This was an excellent episode, with Martin Landau in a dual role as nephews who murder their uncle for his money. I don't think I've ever seen Columbo show fear before. That is, until he met Mrs. Peck. That lady was terrifying and she wasn't even the murderer. The most interesting part of this episode was Columbo's interactions with a thoroughly unhinged Mrs. Peck. The scene where Dexter Paris ropes Columbo into appearing on his cooking show was also delightful. As @columbophile on Twitter informs me, legend has it that scene was adlibbed.
  25. I love comics and paperbacks based on my favorite tv shows, especially if the show is no longer running. It's sort of like adding another season. But the question is, should such comics and paperbacks be considered canon? It certainly is tempting to consider them as such. I especially like to lump the Innovation Lost In Space comics in as canon because a good chunk of them were written by Bill Mumy. They took the story places the show couldn't or wouldn't go and I can't help but wish they'd done similar story lines in the tv series. The comics were also a bit more serious, returning my favorite character, Dr. Zachary Smith, to the more competent, smart character he was at the beginning of the show. So, the question is... Canon or Not Canon?
